Cherokee County, TX (April 27, 2019) On the morning of April 27th, a fatal accident happened on U.S. 69, about one mile south of Alto. The reports state that a driver was driving a van that carried 12 occupants and was taking them to a Special Olympics even in Lufkin. All of the occupants lived together at the Breckenridge Valley in Tyler. For reasons unknown, the driver lost control of the van and ended up in grass off the roadway. The van proceeded to strike a concrete culvert and an electrical pole.

When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they found the driver of the van dead at the scene. He has been identified as 55-year-old Sylvester Conrod, Jr. One of the passengers of the van was injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The police are investigating to determine what caused the van to veer off the roadway.

We wish Sylvester Conrod’s family well as they grieve over his loss. We hope the injured passenger fully recovers from all injuries.
