Houston, TX – 8-Year-Old Injured in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident on Bissonnet St
Houston, TX (June 22, 2019) On the evening of June 20th, a hit-and-run pedestrian accident happened on Bissonnet Street. A 39-year-old woman named Angela Smith struck an 8-year-old girl not far from Hodge’s Bend Middle School and Holley Elementary School in the Four Corners area. The young girl was crossing the street with her brother and sister when the vehicle struck her. After striking the girl, the woman crashed into another vehicle about twelve minutes later.
The paramedics rushed the injured girl to the nearest hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The next morning, a family member found the damaged dark gray Nissan Altima that Smith was driving at the corner of Bellfort Street at Edgewood Park.
The police are still investigating the accident, but they caught Smith and her response as to why she fled the scene was that she was scared of getting caught because her license was suspended. Depending on the extent of the child’s injuries, she may be facing serious charges.
We wish the injured girl a full and fast recovery.
Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accidents in Texas
In 2016, the number of pedestrian fatalities was 31 percent higher than the previous year. When drivers hit pedestrians late at night and proceeded to drive off, the cause is often fear of suffering consequences due to previous criminal history. It’s unfortunate that so many drivers are quick to leave pedestrians suffering in the road instead of being accountable for their actions. More lives would be saved if drivers remained at the scene and immediately called for help.
