Parmer County, TX (July 14, 2019) On the 13th of July, a fatal collision involving a bus occurred on U.S. 60. A 48-year-old named Socorro Gallego was traveling westbound in the deceleration lane in her 2018 Toyota Camry when she failed to yield the right-of-way. As she tried crossing the eastbound lanes to enter Cargill Meat Solutions, she ended up in the way of an oncoming 2016 Vanhool Passenger Bus that was turning left. The bus crashed into the passenger side of the Camry and came to a stop in the eastbound lane. The accident happened at approximately 4:04 a.m.

When the paramedics and other emergency crews arrived, they found 39 occupants on the bus, eight of which sustained injuries. The paramedics were able to treat four of the passengers at the scene, but the remaining four were transported to Parmer Medical Center in Friona. Gallego was also taken to Parmer Medical Center, but she did not survive her injuries.
