UPDATE: Newton County, TX – Brycton Hughey Injured and 1 Killed in Head-On Accident on Hwy 87

Newton County, TX (July 14, 2019) On the morning of July 13th, a fatal head-on accident happened on Highway 87, close to the Bleakwood community. At around 2:45 a.m., a 2012 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling north on the highway when it somehow crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 1996 Chevrolet sedan. Upon impact, the sedan caught on fire and the driver inside was unable to leave the vehicle in time.

When the paramedics, police, and firefighters arrived, they found the driver inside of the sedan dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was seriously injured and rushed to Christus St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Beaumont. He has been identified as 24-year-old Brycton Hughey.

Authorities are still investigating to collect more data regarding what led up to the fatal crash.
