Waco, TX (July 27, 2019) On the 25th of July, a fatal head-on collision happened on Lake Shore Drive at around 3:00 p.m. A 50-year-old man named Mark Vanmartur was traveling on Lake Shore Drive when he crashed head-on with a First United Methodist Church van that carried eight occupants.
When the Waco police department and other emergency crews arrived, they found Vanmartur dead at the scene. A 7-year-old who was also in his car sustained minor injuries and was taken to the closest hospital. All eight occupants in the church van, which included a few children, sustained injuries and were transported to Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest Medical Center for immediate medical assistance.
Crews blocked off Lake Shore Drive from 19th Street to Airport Road as they investigated for about two hours. Once they cleaned up the scene, the lanes reopened at about 5:00 p.m.
The accident is still under investigation.
Our thoughts are with the family of Mark Vanmartur at this time, and we wish the remaining nine injured victims a complete recovery.
Head-On Collisions in Texas
Although head-on collisions aren’t very common compared to other types of accidents, they are considered the deadliest. When two vehicles collide head-on, there’s a very low percentage that the occupants in each vehicle will walk away unharmed. The main cause of head-on collisions is negligence, which includes impatient driving, speeding, and drunk driving.
At Benton Law Firm, we understand how traumatic head-on collisions can be for everyone involved, which is why we work hard to assist those who feel they were wrongfully injured. We have the experience, knowledge, and resources needed to help grieving families with their wrongful death lawsuits, as well as injured victims with their personal injury lawsuits.
