Laredo, TX – UPDATE: Interstate 35 Crash Victims Identified
Laredo, TX (August 21, 2019) – On August 18, at approximately 1 p.m., the Laredo Police Department and emergency crews were called to the scene of a major motor vehicle accident on Interstate 35 near Mall del Norte.
The accident occurred when a white 2018 Kia Optima, a gray 2018 Chevrolet Traverse, and a beige 2001 Chevrolet Suburban collided along the roadway, after 17-year-old Juan Carlos Luco, the driver of the Kia, failed to control his speed and changed lanes unsafely.
The impact of the collision caused the Suburban to roll over, ejecting the two occupants. One individual in the vehicle, 44-year-old Veronica Rivera-Martinez, incurred fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
49-year-old David Ramirez-Ramirez was transported to Doctors Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
A 27-year-old female and her two children, ages 4 and 3, were transported to Laredo Medical Center.
Two other occupants from the Traverse were injured and transported to Doctors Hospital.
At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
