Pedestrian Killed by Drunk Driver in South Austin
Austin, Texas (February 19, 2020)- A pedestrian was killed Saturday night after being struck by a suspected drunk driver. The fatal accident occurred at about 10:40 p.m. February 15, 2020 in the 10000 block of Menchaca Road at Slaughter Lane in south Austin. Police reported that the pedestrian was pushing a shopping cart across the street when a 2014 Ford Focus struck them. The force of the impact caused the pedestrian to penetrate the windshield of the Focus and fully enter the vehicle’s passenger seat. The driver did not stop and render aid, but continued to drive southbound to a local bar. He was later located, arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter. The victim was declared dead at the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
