18-wheeler crash, fire on I-820WB at Rufe Snow blocks traffic

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX – Officials closed the westbound lanes I-820 and both sides of the toll road after a semi crashed and caught fire near Rufe Snow on Monday, reports 5 NBC DFW.

The incident happened sometime before 4:22 p.m. on the westbound side of I-820, just north of North Richland Middle School.

The cause of the crash is still unclear, and police have not yet specified whether other vehicles were involved. They say the collision caused the 18-wheeler to ignite and spill fuel in the roadway.

The interstate remained closed in the area of the crash for at least four and a half hours while crews worked to clean up the fuel spill and clear the scene.

At this time, no injuries have been reported as a result of the accident.
