29-year-old firefighter killed in 2-vehicle crash at FM 757 and FM 2767

WINONA, TX – A 29-year-old firefighter died on Saturday in a two-vehicle, off-duty crash near a busy intersection in northeast Smith County, reports CBS 19.

The incident happened at night near the intersection of FM 757, or Sunshine Church Road, and FM 2767, or the Old Kilgore Highway.

An investigation indicates that a westbound vehicle struck the victim’s northbound vehicle when the victim neglected to stop at the intersection.

Authorities declared the driver of the northbound vehicle dead at the scene of the accident. They identified the victim as Joseph Boehm of Tyler. It is unclear if Boehm was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

Medics transported the driver of the northbound vehicle and his passenger to a local hospital with non-critical injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
