67-year-old man dies after vehicle hits DART train in South Dallas

DALLAS, TX – A 67-year-old man died Monday night after his vehicle struck a Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) train in south Dallas, reports Dallas Morning News.

The incident occurred just before 7 p.m. at the train crossing on Metropolitan Avenue, which is just south of the South Dallas Cultural Center.

Police say that a vehicle drove past the lowered crossing gate while lights were flashing and collided with a southbound Green Line train.

Four passengers on the train sustained minor injuries but did not require hospitalization.

Medics transported the driver of the vehicle, identified as Michael Kelly, to a local hospital, where he died later that night from injuries sustained in the crash.

A full investigation is underway.
