Wrong-way crash on I-20 near Hwy 42 in Kilgore injures several

KILGORE, TX – At least one person died Sunday, and several others were hurt in a wrong-way crash along the interstate in Kilgore, reports DFW Scanner.

The incident occurred around 4:40 p.m. on I-20 near Highway 42. This is on the north side of the city.

Police say that for unknown reasons, a westbound SUV entered the eastbound side of the interstate while speeding and crashed into an eastbound truck and livestock trailer. The SUV was apparently airborne at the time of the collision.

Both vehicles were carrying families, and several people ultimately required hospitalization. One person was thrown from their vehicle, and others became entrapped. It’s unclear which person died in the accident, and authorities have not yet released their name to the public.

The livestock in the trailer pulled by the truck died as a result of the crash.

Officials closed roads in the area of the crash for several hours while medical teams assisted the victims and crews worked to clear the scene.

A full investigation is underway.
