Motorcyclist killed after hitting metal sign on I-820 in Hurst

HURST, TX – A motorcyclist died Tuesday morning after crashing into a large metal sign along the interstate in Hurst, reports NBC DFW 5.

The incident happened just before 4 a.m. in the 400 block of northbound I-820. This is just south of Market Street Village/Pipeline Pointe.

Police say that around 3 a.m., the top of a dump truck struck an overhead road sign. The sign fell into the roadway, creating an obstruction.

Authorities attempted to divert traffic while clearing the debris from the road, but the motorcyclist drove past police barricades and hit the sign.

Medics transported the biker to the hospital, where he died from injuries sustained in the accident.

Officials have not yet released the victim’s name to the public.

The driver of the dump truck left the scene before police arrived.

A full investigation is underway.
