2-vehicle crash at US-271 and FM 2015 kills 2, injures 2

TYLER, TX – Two people died, and an 11-year-old sustained serious injuries Saturday in a two-vehicle crash that happened on the northeast side of Tyler.

According to CBS 19, the incident happened around 8:20 p.m. at the intersection of US-271 and FM 2015, which is just northeast of Camp Ford Historical Park and south of Pine Springs Golf Club.

Police say that an eastbound minivan carrying three people collided with a southbound pickup truck when the latter vehicle entered the highway without yielding right-of-way.

Two people in the van died. Authorities identified them as 62-year-old Tammy Gibney and 39-year-old Chelsea Askew. Medics transported a child passenger from the van to the hospital with critical injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck went to the hospital with undisclosed injuries. Officials say he may face charges for his role in the crash.

A full investigation is underway.
