2-vehicle crash on TX-769 at US-82 near state line kills adult and teen

YOAKUM CO., TX – A 35-year-old woman and a teen boy died last Friday in a two-vehicle accident along State Line Road near Plains, reports Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.

The collision occurred at the intersection of TX-769 and US-82, just east of the Texas and New Mexico state line. This is about 72 miles southwest of Lubbock.

Police say that a southbound 2018 Chevy Malibu collided with a 2022 Ford F-350 when the driver of the former vehicle neglected to stop for the stop sign at the intersection. The two vehicles collided, killing the driver of the Malibu and a 15-year-old passenger. Authorities identified the driver of the Malibu as Tina Ann Abbay.

Medics transported three additional minors from the Malibu to an area hospital. A 1-year-old sustained serious injuries, while a 17-year-old and 9-year-old sustained moderate injuries.

The driver of the pickup did not require hospitalization.

A full investigation is underway.
