Motorcyclist killed, driver arrested in crash at US-84 and E 98th

LUBBOCK, TX – A 49-year-old Slaton man died last Friday in a collision involving his motorcycle and a pickup truck along the highway in southeast Lubbock, reports Lubbock Avalanche – Journal.

The accident happened around 9:30 pm on the eastbound side of US-84 at County Road 7200, or East 98th Street.

Police say that the eastbound 2016 Yamaha motorcycle struck the rear corner of a 2024 Chevrolet 2500 pickup truck, driven by Dane Lay Powell, 60. The investigation indicates that while Powell was stopped in the crossover lane, the near of his vehicle was projecting into the left eastbound lane.

The operator of the motorcycle sustained fatal injuries. Authorities identified him as Danny Adam Vasquez, Sr.

Lubbock Police arrested Powell on a felony charge of intoxication manslaughter.

The investigation is ongoing.
