Austin crash involving semi at TX-71 and Thomas Springs kills 1

AUSTIN, TX – A woman died last Friday in a two-vehicle collision involving an 18-wheeler along the highway in southwest Austin, reports Fox 7 Austin.

The accident happened just before 7:15 a.m. at the intersection of TX-71 and Thomas Springs Road. This is northwest of the Y in Oak Hill, near the Natural Gardener and Blue Hill Estates.

Police say that the driver of an eastbound Kia ran the red light on Thomas Springs and crashed into a semi-truck that was headed south on the highway.

Authorities declared the driver of the Kia deceased at the scene. They identified her as Tracy Daspit.

The truck driver did not sustain injuries in the accident.

Motorists likely encountered rush-hour delays at the intersection of TX-71 and Thomas Springs Road while emergency teams responded to the fatal collision.

A full investigation is underway.
