DUI driver strikes, seriously injures man on Everglade in Odessa
ODESSA, TX – A 25-year-old man sustained life-threatening injuries last Sunday when a hit-and-run driver struck him in front of his Odessa home.
According to Your Basin, the accident happened just after 1:30 a.m. in the 3700 block of Everglade Avenue. This is just west of Burnet Elementary School.
Police say the victim, identified as Alex Bingham, exited his home after hearing a loud noise. As he was standing in front of his home, a Dodge Challenger hit Bingham and left the scene.
Bingham sustained significant injuries, including multiple broken bones, head trauma, and a broken spine. His medical team induced a coma, and it’s unclear if Bingham will survive.
Authorities located and arrested the driver of the Dodge, identified as Jose Contreras. Contreras faces charges that include intoxication assault and collision causing serious bodily injury.
The investigation is ongoing.
