Wrong-way crash on US-83 near San Ygnacio kills 3

ZAPATA CO., TX – A wrong-way crash along the highway in west-central Zapata County last Wednesday fatally injured three people, reports LMTonline.

The accident happened around 10:30 a.m. on US-83 just north of San Ygnacio. This is about 35 miles south of Laredo.

Police say that a Chevy Silverado carrying two people and a Ford F-150 carrying one person collided head-on. It’s not yet clear which vehicle veered onto the wrong side of the highway.

Both the driver of the Ford and a passenger from the Chevy died at the scene of the accident. Authorities identified them as 41-year-old Alejandro Garcia and 48-year-old Jesus Abel Garcia Chapa.

The driver of the Chevy, identified as 51-year-old Oscar Guerra Chapa, died after transport to an area hospital.

A full investigation is underway.
