Corpus man killed in auto vs. pedestrian crash on FM 2444

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – A 64-year-old man died last Thursday evening when a vehicle struck him along a roadway on the south side of Corpus Christi, reports Caller Times.

The accident happened shortly before 7:30 p.m. on FM 2444, or Staples Street, just east of TX-286. This is west of South Texas Botanical Gardens and Nature Center.

Police say that an eastbound 2017 Ford Fusion hit the pedestrian, followed by three other vehicles. The victim, identified as Richard Green of Corpus, was attempting to cross FM 2444 in the dark when the crash occurred. Green died at the scene.

The 37-year-old driver of the Ford did stop to render aid and speak with authorities.

Officials say that Green did not yield for traffic and did not attempt to cross in a designated pedestrian area.

A full investigation is underway.
