Cyclist rear-ended, killed on FM 1015 near Ramiro Guerra Dr

MERCEDES, TX – A 47-year-old cyclist from Donna sustained fatal injuries Tuesday when a vehicle struck him along FM 1015 in southeast Hidlago County, reports Valley Central.

The accident happened shortly before 6:30 a.m. between Joe Olivarez Street and Ramiro Guerra Drive in the city of Mercedes. This is about 22 miles northwest of Harlingen.

Police say that for unknown reasons, a northbound 2024 Ford E-450 truck rear-ended a northbound cyclist.

Medics transported the bicyclist, identified as 47-year-old Gerardo Reyes Gonzalez Angeles, to area hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the identity of the driver, nor have they indicated if he will face charges.
