Semi vs. car crash at TX-349 and FM 1213 kills 1, injures 1

MIDLAND, TX – A 45-year-old man died Sunday evening in a two-vehicle crash involving a semi on the far-south side of Midland, reports NewsWest 9.

The accident occurred shortly before 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of TX-349 and FM 1213. This is just south of Serenity Memorial Garden Cemetery.

Police say that a northbound 2015 Freightliner collided with a westbound 2013 Chevrolet Sonic when the driver of the latter vehicle neglected to heed the stop sign at the intersection.

The driver of the Chevy, identified as 45-year-old Manuel Velasco, died at the scene.

Medics transported the 40-year-old truck driver to an area hospital with non-critical injuries.

A full investigation is underway.
