7-year-old girl killed in 2-vehicle DUI crash on Bammel N Houston Rd

HOUSTON, TX – A 7-year-old girl sustained fatal injuries Sunday in an alleged DUI crash at a major intersection in northwest Houston, reports KHOU 11.

The accident happened around 2 a.m. at the intersection of Bammel North Houston Road and Sam Houston Parkway, which is east of Sam Houston Race Park.

Police say that Joel Gonzalez Chacin was intoxicated when he ignored a red-light, causing his vehicle to collide with another vehicle at the intersection.

A 7-year-old passenger in the second vehicle died at the scene of the crash.

The victim’s mother, who was driving the second vehicle, went to the hospital with critical injuries.

Authorities say that Chacin took pictures at the scene instead of rendering aid. Authorities arrested him on a charge of intoxication manslaughter.

A full investigation is underway.
