Juan Melesio struck, killed by DWI driver on E Riverside
AUSTIN, TX – A man sustained fatal injuries Sunday when a vehicle struck him along a major roadway in southeast Austin, reports Fox 7 Austin.
Emergency teams responded to reports of a pedestrian crash shortly before 7 a.m. in the area of 2000 East Riverside Drive. This is east of I-35 and just south of the river.
Police say that a drunk driver, later identified as 30-year-old Ali-Mbemba Kembilu, hit the pedestrian with his vehicle. Kembilu was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
The victim died at the scene. Authorities identified him as Juan Melesio.
It’s not yet clear what caused the collision, nor do we know if the victim was walking in a designated crosswalk when he was hit.
