Justin Buentello, 26, killed in wrong-way crash in NW Corpus
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – A man died, and three people sustained injuries Sunday in a wrong-way crash on the far northwest side of Corpus Christi, reports KRIS 6 News.
The accident happened shortly before 8 pm. on Violet Road between Leopard Street and I-37 in the Annaville area.
Police say a southbound 2009 Nissan Altima carrying two people entered the northbound side of Violet Road and collided with a northbound 2017 Mercedes-Benz CLA.
A passenger in the Nissan, identified as 26-year-old Justin Buentello, died after transport to an area hospital.
Both the male driver of the Mercedes and his pregnant wife were hospitalized with injuries. The wife’s injuries caused her to lose her pregnancy.
The wrong-way driver, since identified as 26-year-old Alexis Rios, sustained injuries of unknown severity.
Authorities suspect that alcohol may have been a factor in causing Rios to lose control of her vehicle.
No charges have been announced thus far.
