John Lucero, 57, killed in 2-vehicle crash near Umbarger
RANDALL CO., TX – A 57-year-old man died Saturday morning in a two-vehicle accident in west-central Randall County, reports News Channel 10.
The crash occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of FM 1062 and FM 168. This is just north of Umbarger and about 30 minutes southwest of Amarillo.
Police say that a missing stop sign caused a southbound 2018 GMC Sierra and an eastbound 2019 Ford F-250 to collide in the intersection.
The driver of the Sierra, identified as 57-year-old John Lucero, died at the scene of the wreck.
Medics transported the driver of the Ford, identified as 37-year-old Sage Brannon, to an area hospital with non-critical injuries.
Authorities say that high winds likely caused the stop sign to fall or blow away.
A full investigation is underway.
