Alexander Conwell, Janica Oliphint killed in Brazoria Co. crash

MANVEL, TX – A man and a woman died early Sunday in a single-vehicle crash along the highway in northeast Brazoria County, reports Fox 26 Houston.

The accident happened on the northbound side of TX-288, or the South Freeway, near Croix Road in the city of Manvel. This is about 24 miles south of Houston.

Police say that for unknown reasons, the driver of a southbound Tesla Model S entered the northbound side of TX-288 and struck a concrete barrier. The impact of the collision caused the car to catch fire.

The two occupants of the Tesla succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Authorities identified the victims as 45-year-old Alexander Conwell and 36-year-old Janica Oliphint.

Authorities say the driver of the vehicle was likely speeding when the wreck occurred.

It’s not yet known if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors.

A full investigation is underway.
