Ricardo Luna, 22, killed in crash near Gateway and Hercules

EL PASO, TX – Two adults were claimed last Thursday morning in a two-vehicle collision at a busy intersection on the northeast side of El Paso, reports KFOX 14.

The accident happened shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Gateway North Boulevard between Hercules Drive and Edgar Park Avenue. This is east of the Patriot Freeway in the Sunrise Acres area.

Police say that the drivers of a 2006 Toyota Avalon and a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 lost control of their vehicles and left Gateway North. The Toyota overturned, hitting both an electrical pole and a tree. The Dodge Ram hit a curb and also rolled.

Two passengers from the Toyota — a man and a woman — died at the scene of the wreck. Authorities identified the man as 22-year-old Ricardo Luna. Authorities have not yet released the name of the woman, but they say she was in her 20s.

Medics transported the 18-year-old driver of the Toyota and both occupants of the Dodge Ram to an area hospital with injuries of unknown severity.

Officials say that both drivers were speeding and that at least one of them may have been intoxicated with the accident occurred.

A full investigation is underway.
