Deputy Melissa Pollard killed in Wood Co. crash with semi
WOOD CO., TX – A Wood County Sheriff’s deputy sustained fatal injuries Wednesday morning in a major crash involving an 18-wheeler near Winnsboro, reports KLTV 7.
The accident happened sometime before 11:20 a.m. at the intersection of FM 14 and TX-37. This is south of Lake Winnsboro and north of Heroes Ranch, about 100 miles east of Dallas.
Police say the deputy was on duty when her vehicle struck the rear-of a semi-truck at the intersection. A preliminary investigation indicates that the truck driver had slowed to turn when the collision occurred.
The Wood County Sheriff’s deputy died not long after the wreck. Authorities identified her as Deputy Melissa Pollard.
The truck driver did not sustain injuries in the accident.
Motorists faced substantial delays in the area of FM 14 and TX-37 Wednesday morning while emergency teams gathered evidence and worked to clear the scene.
