Laura Garcia struck, killed on Kewalo Basin in SE Houston
HOUSTON, TX – A 61-year-old woman sustained fatal injuries Saturday morning when a vehicle struck her in Southeast Houston, reports the City of Houston.
The accident happened around 9:30 a.m. on Kewalo Basin Lane near Iron Springs Drive. This is north of Gulf Palms Park and east of I-45.
Police say the victim was hit by a white GMC Sierra pickup truck after following her dog into the intersection.
The pedestrian, identified as Laura Garcia, died after transport to an area hospital.
The 21-year-old driver of the pickup truck stopped to render aid and speak with authorities. He did not display any signs of intoxication and claimed not to have seen the victim in the roadway.
