Vehicle strikes, kills Janette Collazo, 56, in Dawson Co.

LAMESA, TX – A woman in a wheelchair died Sunday when a vehicle struck her at a busy intersection in central Dawson County, reports First Alert 7.

The accident happened shortly before 9 p.m. on North Bryan Avenue near North 7th Street, which is on the west side of Lamesa, about an hour south of Lubbock.

Police say that a 56-year-old woman in a wheelchair was attempting to cross Bryan Avenue when she was hit by a car.

The woman, since identified as Janette Rene Collazo, died after transport to an area hospital.

Authorities haven’t specified whether Collazo was utilizing a designated crosswalk when the wreck occurred, nor have they shared any information about the driver.

No charges have been announced so far.

A full investigation is underway.
