George Acker, 34, killed in semi crash on US-385 near Channing

HARTLEY CO., TX – A Dalhart man sustained fatal injuries Thursday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision involving a semi in northeast Oldham County, reports News Channel 10.

Around 1 p.m., emergency teams reported to US-385 just north of Boys Ranch to assist with a major crash. This is around 45 miles northwest of Amarillo.

Police say that the driver of a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 failed to yield to a northbound 2010 Freightliner while entering the highway from a rest stop. The 18-wheeler struck the driver’s side of the pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup truck, since identified as 34-year-old George Acker, died at the scene of the wreck.

The truck driver was not injured in the accident.

Motorists likely faced significant delays along US-385 between Channing and Boys Ranch while emergency crews worked at the scene.

A full investigation is underway.
