Dakoda and Nancy Bennefield killed in wrong-way crash in E Texas

NACOGDOCHES, TX – Two people died, and another sustained major injuries Friday in a two-vehicle crash involving a box truck in central Nacogdoches County, reports KLTV 7.

Shortly after 12:30 p.m., emergency teams reported to the 4000 block of East Main Street, or Highway 21, on the southeast side of Nacogdoches.

Police say that a westbound Isuzu box truck entered the eastbound side of Highway 21 and collided head-on with an eastbound pickup truck.

According to authorities, the driver of the box tuck veered into the eastbound lane to avoid a stopped vehicle on the westbound side.

The driver of the pickup truck, identified as 27-year-old Dakoda Bennefield, died at the scene of the wreck.

The passenger in the pickup truck, identified as 54-year-old Nancy Michelle Bennefield, succumbed to her injuries after transport to an area hospital.

Medics transported the driver of the box truck to the hospital with serious injuries.

Officials closed Highway 21 in the area of the crash for multiple hours while crews assisted the victims and worked to clear the wreckage.

A full investigation is underway.
