Jose Olmedo, 36, killed in big rig collision in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, TX – A 36-year-old man sustained fatal injuries Tuesday in a fiery truck crash along the interstate in northeast San Antonio, reports KSAT 12.

The accident happened shortly before 4:30 a.m. on the eastbound side of Loop 410 near Quail Creek Drive, which is west of I-35 and southeast of Northeast Baptist Hospital.

Police say that for unknown reasons, the driver of an 18-wheeler lost control of the truck and hit a concrete barrier on the interstate. The crash caused the semi to flip onto its side and ignite.

The driver of the semi, identified as Jose Natividad Olmedo, succumbed to his injuries at the accident scene.

There were no passengers in the truck, and no other vehicles were involved.

Authorities are investigating to determine whether the driver might have fallen sleep at the wheel or become distracted.
