Courtney, Cody, and Daniel Cortez killed in Kerr County crash

KERR CO., TX – Three people died Saturday afternoon in a four-vehicle collision along the highway between Center Point and Comfort in southeast Kerr County, reports KSAT 12.

The accident occurred shortly before 5 p.m. on TX-27 at Bluff Creek Road North. This is just west of Zanzenberg Ranch and just under an hour northwest of San Antonio.

Police say that the driver of an eastbound Toyota SUV was intoxicated when he entered the westbound side of the highway and crashed head-on into three motorcycles.

All three motorcycle operators died at the scene of the wrong-way collision. Authorities identified the victims as 25-year-old Courtney Cortez, 34-year-old Cody Cortez, and 57-year-old Daniel Cortez Jr.

Medics airlifted an unidentified passenger from one of the bikes to an area hospital with unknown injuries.

Authorities arrested the driver of the Toyota, identified as 25-year-old Jeremy Wasson, on charges that include intoxication assault and intoxication manslaughter.

Wasson also required hospitalization with injuries of unknown severity.

The investigation is ongoing.
