Solo crash in Grand Prairie kills Karen Morales and one other

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX – Two people died, and two others sustained injuries Sunday in a single-vehicle collision in southwest Dallas County, reports WFAA News 8.

The accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of Southeast 8th Street and Teal Drive, which is west of Grand Prairie City Office and north of Whitt Fine Arts Academy.

Police say that for unknown reasons, the driver of a southbound Ford pickup lost control of the vehicle, veered off of Southeast 8th Street and crashed into a tree.

Authorities pronounced the driver of the pickup and a passenger deceased at the scene. They identified one of the victims as 19-year-old Karen Morales.

Medics transported two additional passengers to an area hospital with critical injuries.

It’s not yet known if seatbelts were in use.

Officials are working to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.

A full investigation is underway.
