11-vehicle crash involving semi in El Paso kills 1, injures 6
EL PASO, TX – One person died, and six people were hurt Thursday in a multi-vehicle collision involving an 18-wheeler on the northwest side of El Paso, reports KFOX 14.
The fatal accident occurred shortly before 6:30 a.m. in the area of North Desert Boulevard and TX-375, or Woodrow Bean Transmountain Drive. This is just southeast of The Outlet Shoppes at El Paso.
Police say that for unknown reasons, a tow truck hauling a semi collided with several other vehicles along TX-375. This initial crash caused at least one vehicle to catch fire.
A preliminary investigation suggests that the driver of the tow truck may have experienced a mechanical issue that prevented him from stopping.
Authorities declared one person deceased at the scene. They’ve not yet been identified.
Medics transported six additional patients to an area hospital with injuries of unknown severity.
It’s unclear if the driver of the tow truck will face charges.
The investigation is ongoing.
