Marcos Chapa, 18, and minor girl killed in George West crash
CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Two people died this week in a single-vehicle rollover collision caused by an alleged drunk driver in Live Oak County, reports KIITV 3 News.
The accident occurred Wednesday night along Middle Road between County Road 103 and Smith Road in southwest George West. This is about 64 miles northwest of Corpus Christi.
Police say that the 19-year-old driver of a 2015 Chrysler 200, identified as Elias Chapa Jr., showed signs of intoxication when he lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, and crashed into a fence. The driver says he was trying to avoid hitting a dear in the roadway.
The impact of the crash caused the sedan to overturn, throwing two passengers from the vehicle.
Both passengers, 18-year-old Marcos Chapa and a 12-year-old girl, succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the collision.
Medics transported the driver to an area hospital with injuries of unknown severity. Authorities later arrested Chapa Jr. on charges of intoxication manslaughter.
The investigation is ongoing.
