Yemane Berhane, 23, killed in Hudspeth County semi crash

HUDSPETH CO., TX – A 23-year-old truck driver died last Friday in a collision involving two 18-wheelers along the interstate in west-central Hudspeth County.

According to KVIA 7 News, the accident occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. along I-10 between Esperanza and Etholen. This is about 80 miles southeast of El Paso.

Police say that a semi-truck rear-ended a disabled 18-wheeler on the side of the interstate, causing the truck in front to hit the driver, who was standing near the big rig.

The driver of the disabled semi, identified as Yemane Berhane, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Medics transported a passenger from Berhane’s truck and the driver of the second semi to an area hospital with injuries of unknown severity.

The accident likely caused delays along I-10 west of Etholen and Sierra Blanca while emergency teams responded to the scene.

A full investigation is underway.
