Afternoon crash on TX-71 in Spicewood claims Quincy Jette

SPICEWOOD, TX – A teen sustained fatal injuries last Thursday in a wrong-way collision along a highway in south-central Burnet County, reports CBS Austin.

The two-vehicle crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. along TX-71 near Gregg Drive in Spicewood, which is about an hour northwest of Austin.

Police say that for unknown reasons, the 19-year-old driver of an eastbound passenger vehicle entered the westbound side of TX-71 and collided head-on with a westbound diesel tanker.

The wrong-way driver, identified as Quincy Jette, died at the scene of the accident.

The tanker driver sustained non-critical injuries; it’s unclear if they required hospitalization.

Officials closed both sides of the highway in the area of the collision for over two hours while emergency crews worked at the scene.

A full investigation is underway.
