Federico Gonzalez struck and killed Toyota Tundra on I-410

SAN ANTONIO, TX – A man died early Saturday when a drunk driver in a pickup truck hit him along the beltway in northeast San Antonio, reports News4SA.

The auto-pedestrian crash occurred shortly before 2 a.m. on I-410, or the Connally Loop, near Perrin Beitel. This is just west of I-35 in the Village North area.

The investigation thus far suggests that 20-year-old Federico Gonzalez was hit by a Toyota Tundra while crossing Loop 410 on foot after leaving a local dance establishment. It’s not yet clear why Gonzalez attempted to cross the beltway on foot.

Police arrested the driver of the Tundra, identified as 42-year-old Joseph Cortez, at the scene of the accident on charges related to driving under the influence of alcohol.

Drivers likely encountered significant early-morning delays along Loop 410 in the area of the crash while emergency crews worked at the scene.

A full investigation is underway.
