Eliasib Vargas, 34, fatally injured in S Austin motorcycle crash
AUSTIN, TX – A 34-year-old motorcyclist died last Thursday night in a collision involving a drunk driver in southeast Austin, reports KXAN.
Around 9 p.m., emergency teams were called to South Pleasant Valley Road between East Riverside Drive and Elmont Drive. This is just east of HEB Plus! and south of Town Lake.
Police say that 54-year-old Thomas Ajanel Chan was intoxicated when his vehicle hit a motorcycle. There’s no word yet regarding the nature in which the two vehicles impacted.
The motorcyclist, identified as Eliasib Cortes Vargas, succumbed to his injuries after transport to an area hospital.
Specific charges are pending for the Chan, who was arrested at the scene for drunk driving.
Drivers likely faced delays along Pleasant Valley Road last Thursday night while crews attended to the downed motorcyclist and worked to clear the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
