Josette Blasdel IDed as truck driver killed in Newton Co. crash
NEWTON CO., TX – A 41-year-old woman died Monday afternoon in a major accident involving an 18-wheeler in northern Newton County, reports KFDM 6.
The single-vehicle crash occurred around 3:45 p.m. along TX-63 eastbound near the city of Burkeville, which is about 84 miles northeast of Beaumont in east Texas.
Police say that a semi-truck carrying two people left the roadway, hit a tree, and rolled after a rear tire burst. There’s no word yet regarding the cause of the tire failure.
The driver of the semi, identified as Josette Blasdel of Louisiana, succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the accident.
A passenger in the truck was unhurt in the collision.
Motorists likely faced delays along TX-63 Monday afternoon while Burkeville emergency crews worked at the scene.
