Yobani Cardova-Hernandez killed in Dallam Co. semi collision
DALLAM CO., TX – A 27-year-old man sustained fatal injuries Monday night in a wrong-way crash involving an 18-wheeler in south-central Dallam County.
According to abc 7 News, the fatal accident occurred shortly before midnight along US-87 just northwest of Dalhart. This is about 86 miles northwest of Amarillo.
Police say that for unknown reasons, the driver of Chevy Impala veered onto the wrong side of US-87, colliding head-on with a semi-truck. The impact of the crash caused both the sedan and the semi to ignite after overturning.
The wrong-way driver, identified as Yobani Cardova-Hernandez of Dalhart, died at the scene of the accident.
Medics transported the 21-year-old truck driver from Richardson to an area hospital with serious injuries.
Motorists likely faced closures along the highway while emergency crews worked to douse the fire and clear the scene.
A full investigation is underway.
