Curtis, Catherine Van Diest IDed as victims in Kingwood crash
KINGWOOD, TX – A married couple sustained fatal injuries Sunday in a two-vehicle collision caused by a drunk driver in northeast Harris County, reports Fox 26 Houston.
The accident occurred around 5:45 p.m. at the intersection of West Lake Houston Parkway and Magnolia Cove Drive in Kingwood, which is about 27 miles northeast of Houston.
Police say that 40-year-old John Nathan Dool was intoxicated and speeding when his westbound pickup truck struck a northbound Cadillac SUV. The SUV was accelerating after breaking at the stop sign in the intersection.
The occupants of the SUV, identified as Curtis and Catherine Van Diest, succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the crash.
The pickup truck overturned as a result of the collision, and Dool required hospitalization for non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities arrested Dool on two counts of intoxication manslaughter.
The investigation is ongoing.
