Bessie Fickel, 84, IDed as victim in 2-car crash in SW Amarillo

AMARILLO, TX – An elderly woman sustained fatal injuries Thursday morning in a two-vehicle collision that happened on the southwest side of Amarillo, reports News Channel 10.

The accident occurred shortly before 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of Coulter Street and Andover Drive, which is west of Windsor Elementary School and northeast of Greenways Park.

Police say that a southbound GMC Terrain collided with the front driver’s side of an eastbound Chevy Equinox when the driver of the latter vehicle attempted a left turn from Andover Drive onto northbound Coulter Street.

An 84-year-old passenger in the Chevy, identified as Bessie Fickel, succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the crash.

Medics transported the 15-year-old driver of the GMC and the 74-year-old driver of the Chevy to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No charges have been announced thus far, and a full investigation is underway.
