Melissia Mungia IDed as victim in Dawn building explosion

DAWN, TX – A 36-year-old woman died, and three people sustained injuries early Wednesday in an industrial explosion in east-central Deaf Smith County.

According to abc 7 Amarillo, the incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. at Panhandle Milling on FM 809 in the city of Dawn. This is about 34 miles southwest of Amarillo.

Investigators say that a work-related explosion in a building at Panhandle Milling caused a partial structure collapse.

Medics and firefighters responded to the scene and worked to extricate several people from the burning building.

Three people went to the hospital for treatment of burn injuries. The severity of their injuries is unknown at this time.

One worker, later identified as Melissa Mungia, died at the scene of the fire.

There’s no word yet regarding the cause of the explosion, but a full investigation is underway.
