Robert Martin killed in Salado crash involving deer, 3 vehicles
SALADO, TX – A 24-year-old Dallas man sustained fatal injuries Sunday in a collision involving a deer and three vehicles in south-central Bell County, reports Fox 44 News.
The accident occurred just before 3:30 a.m. on I-35 near FM 2484 on the north side of Salado, which is south of Belton and about 53 miles northeast of Austin.
Police say the victim’s 2020 Toyota RAV was stopped in a lane of travel on I-35 northbound after hitting a deer. A subsequent rear-end crash involving a commercial vehicle pushed the Toyota onto the southbound side of I-35. The car was then hit by a southbound 2015 GMC SUV.
The driver of the Toyota, identified as Robert Martin, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
No other injuries have been reported in connection to the collision.
Officials closed several lanes of I-35 immediately following the crash, urging drivers to avoid the area.
A full investigation is underway.
