Houston DUI crash kills Jayden Flemming, 1 other

HOUSTON, TX – Two men died last weekend in a hit-and-run collision caused by a drunk driver in Midtown Houston, reports KHOU 11.

The accident happened just after 2 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Elgin and Smith Streets, which is northwest of I-69 and west of Midtown Park.

Police say that 21-year-old Rene Hernandez was likely intoxicated when he evaded an attempted stop after hitting two vehicles. While fleeing police, Hernandez ignored multiple red lights and ultimately hit a Lexus, causing it to crash into a nearby building. The Lexus then ignited, and both occupants were killed at the scene.

Authorities identified the victims as Jayden Flemming and Ronnie Burns II, both 22-years-old.

Medics transported Hernandez and a female passenger to an area hospital with non-critical injuries.

Hernandez faces charges that include murder and driving while intoxicated.

The investigation is ongoing.
