Martinez Vela claimed in solo crash on US-67 near Barnhart

IRON CO., TX – A 59-year-old man sustained fatal injuries Tuesday in a single-vehicle collision along the highway in southwest Iron County, reports San Angelo Live.

The crash happened around 5:30 p.m. on US-67 near the city of Barnhart, which is about an hour southwest of San Angelo and two hours southeast of Midland.

Police say that for unknown reasons, the driver of a southbound 2014 Chevy Camaro lost control of his vehicle, left the highway, and crashed into a ditch.

The unrestrained driver, identified as Martinez Ezequiel Vela of Ozona, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

There were no passengers in the Chevy at the time of the accident.

Officials likely closed US-59 in the area of the collision while emergency teams worked at the scene.

A full investigation is underway.
