Wrong-way crash near Manheim kills Richard, Isabella Ungerman

LEE CO., TX – Two people sustained fatal injuries Sunday in a head-on collision along the highway in west-central Lee County, reports KBTX 3.

The accident occurred shortly after 5 p.m. on TX-21 near the intersection with FM 2440, which is just east of Manheim and about 50 miles east of Austin.

Police say that for unknown reasons, the driver of a Chevy Silverado veered onto the wrong side of TX-21, entering the path of a Nissan Altima.

The driver and passenger in the Nissan, identified as Richard and Isabella Ungerman, succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the crash.

It’s unclear if anyone else sustained injuries in the collision.

There’s no word yet regarding the condition of the wrong-way driver at the time of the accident.

No charges have been filed so far.

A full investigation is underway.
